A Second App

StormSync Lite.

A lightweight, radar-focused app with the same broadcast-grade alert speed as StormSync VT/OI. No credentials, no setup, just the fastest warnings available.

In development · Expected late July 2026
The Idea

Radar first. Alerts instantly.

StormSync Lite is a standalone radar application built purely for rapid performance and immediate hazard visualization. Open it, see the radar, see every active warning polygon, done.

Where the full StormSync VT/OI app is a complete monitoring suite, Lite takes the opposite philosophy: zero setup. A centralized StormSync ingest connects to NWWS-OI once, parses every National Weather Service text alert and warning polygon, and broadcasts them to all Lite users instantly, keeping source credentials fully secured.

Broadcast-Grade Speed

Warnings arrive through the central NWWS-OI feed within seconds of issuance, with only an essentially unnoticeable ~100 ms relay delay.

No Credentials Needed

No NWWS-OI application, no 10 to 30 day wait. The central source handles it for everyone.

Light By Design

Radar only. No archives, no dashboards, no clutter. Built to open fast and stay fast.

Why Lite Is Faster

Same warning. Very different clocks.

Most radar apps wait on the public REST API, which refreshes on a polling cycle: the app asks, the server answers, and whatever happened in between waits for the next tick. Lite listens to a live NWWS-OI broadcast instead, so a warning shows up on your map at essentially the same moment it leaves the forecast office.

Alert Display

Every tier, instantly recognizable.

Lite uses the same tier system and color language as the full app. Click any warning polygon and its full details pop up: classification, severity rank, affected area, expiration, and storm motion.

Here is what a top-tier notification looks like. The left edge and title always carry the tier color, so you can read severity before you read a single word.

Comparison

Lite vs VT/OI.

Two apps, two jobs. Lite is the quick-glance radar; VT/OI is the full console.
