StormSync VT/OI connects directly into the NOAA Weather Wire Service Open Interface, the same live feed powering TV broadcasters and emergency management agencies across the country. Alerts appear on screen in under three seconds, not minutes, with full VTEC parsing and tiered audio tones that tell you exactly what is happening before you even look up.
Every design decision in StormSync exists to get critical information in front of you faster and more clearly than anything else available to a civilian operator.
Authenticates directly to NOAA's Weather Wire Service Open Interface over XMPP. No third-party aggregators, no polling delays. Products arrive at your machine the same moment they arrive at broadcast stations.
Every incoming product is decoded at the VTEC level, including phenomena codes, significance levels, UGC zones, and P-VTEC action strings. Tornado warnings are broken into five sub-types, each assigned its own severity rank between 1 and 115.
Every alert tier has its own distinct color. Tornado Emergency in hot pink, PDS in purple, confirmed signatures in bright red, down through oranges, yellows, and greens to advisories. Accent colors for most tiers are fully customizable and persist across sessions.
Day 1 through Day 8 convective outlooks, Mesoscale Discussions, active watches on a map layer, and a warnings map showing every polygon currently in the system database.
Audio tones escalate in urgency with severity level. Each tornado tier has a distinct sound, so the audio alone communicates what is happening before you look at the screen. Custom audio files can replace any default tone.
Every alert received is written to a local SQLite database with full metadata intact. Nothing leaves your computer. The full history is available for post-event analysis, session replay, or exporting at any time.
Two of the most-used parts of StormSync, rendered accurately so you know what to expect before you install.
Every major alert tier has an individually assignable accent color. Open the settings panel, click any swatch, pick a new color, and it applies immediately with no restart required.
ALERT COLOR PALETTE
Customize accent colors for each alert tier. Changes apply immediately and persist across sessions. Each incoming alert is rendered as a structured card showing the issuing WFO, the timestamp, the full alert classification, the affected county, and the numeric severity rank. The left accent stripe mirrors the tier color from your palette.

This is an example of an official outlook from the SPC, from 4/2/2025. You can see the categorical outlook alongside the tornado, hail, and wind probabilities.
There are 4 levels to tornado warnings: standard, confirmed (not shown), PDS, and emergency.
You can view outlooks as far back as October of 2019 (to be expanded to 2003).
