StormSync is still in active development. Updates come out often and feedback helps a lot. You do not need any NWWS-OI credentials: open the app and choose Central Feed. If you have your own NWS account, you can use a Private Feed instead.

Ask for access

The form asks for your name, email, how you plan to use StormSync and whether you stream. It is approved automatically, and the download unlocks on this browser as soon as you submit it.

First launch

  1. Run the installer. If Windows shows "Windows protected your PC", click More info, then Run anyway. This is expected, see the note below.
  2. Open StormSync.
  3. In the connection settings choose Central Feed. If you have your own NWWS-OI account, choose Private Feed and enter it there.
  4. Wait for the connection light to show you are connected. Alerts appear as the NWS issues them.

After this install, new versions show up as a banner inside the app and you update from there. Come back here only if you are on a version older than 0.0.60. Versions before 0.0.51 can no longer connect to Central Feed.

Why does Windows warn me? StormSync is not code-signed yet. Certificates cost money, and this is a free solo project, so Windows SmartScreen treats the installer as an unknown publisher and shows a warning. It does not mean anything is wrong with the file. Make sure you downloaded it from this page, then choose More info and Run anyway. Some antivirus tools may also flag a new, unsigned app. If you are unsure, email [email protected] before running it.

This is a very old build from more than a year ago, before NWWS-OI and Central Feed existed. It is here so you can see where the project started.

  • It is a museum piece, not a working alert app. It does not connect to Central Feed or NWWS-OI.
  • It is no longer updated or supported. For real use, get the current version above.
  • Unzip it first. Windows will show the same unknown publisher warning as the main download. It was orginally protected by a code, the code is "stormsyncGO"
